Parallels Summit 2013 – Recap

I recently had the opportunity to attend the recent Parallels Summit 2013 in Las Vegas, Nevada. The event centered on moments for gaining crucial knowledge from people who know the hosting and cloud service market. Kicking off the conference on the Monday evening was a Rolling Out the Red Carpet Welcome Reception in the exhibit hall which gave attendees a chance to view many of the game-changing innovations exhibitors had to offer to the Parallels user community including Asigra Cloud Backup.

Starting off the beginning of the sessions on Tuesday Morning was Parallels Chief Executive Officer, Birger Steen, who spoke on the use and adoption of cloud services in the SMB marketplace.

"The Global SMB Cloud Market will Grow by 28% year-over-year through 2015"

Parallels Summit 2013 - RecapThis statistic echoes our research around Enterprises embracing cloud services with the worldwide market for cloud services estimated to be worth $148.8 billion by 2014.

Later on Tuesday, Tim Harmon, Principal Analyst at Forrester spoke about the State of the SMB Market. For those service providers focused on this marketplace, according to Tim, the south and west USA has the strongest concentration of SMBs. Making sure you're focusing your attention on these regions will ensure you can reach the largest markets. He also showed a chart indicating that cloud based disaster recovery and business continuity was a top technology priority for SMBs in the next 12 months so hosting and service providers should be aligning their businesses to take advantage of this trend.

As companies from the SMB and enterprise market adopt more cloud services specifically SaaS-and PaaS-based applications like salesforce.com, Google Apps, Office365 and others, how are they backing up their data that resides within these applications? A huge opportunity has presented itself for hosting and cloud services providers to tackle this increasing market and address a vastly unmet need: the ability to backup and recover from the cloud.

For more information on how a comprehensive enterprise class backup, recovery and restore platform can be used to protect SMB and enterprise data residing in SaaS-based applications like salesforce.com, view the concise executive summary on Enterprise Cloud Backup of Cloud-Based Applications/Platforms.
