The Data Protection Solution for Desktops
Many challenges face IT executives and managers. Even though you back up your LAN servers
regularly, you know that users still store missioncritical
data on their desktop hard drives. Often
this is information that is crucial for your day-today
operations, as well as legal compliance. Yet,
because it isn’t on the server, it isn’t backed up
systematically. In fact, it probably isn’t backed up
at all.
If you lose this vital information, it could take days,
even weeks to rebuild it. Downtime could seriously
affect your organization’s profitability.
You could back up all the data from every desktop
machine on the network to tape, every day,
manually. Good in theory, but managing that task is
virtually impossible.
Besides, traditional tape backup requires an everincreasing
investment in time, training, technology
and supplies. Managing tape storage offsite is a
chore, and restoring data lost between storage
periods is difficult. Other so-called solutions exist,
but they’re complex, costly, inefficient and
bandwidth intensive.
A more effective solution for
LAN-wide backup
AsigraTM TelevaultingTM for Desktops is a
backup/restore solution that lets you back up all
your corporate data to an online storage vault.
Protecting every machine on your LAN, including
desktops, laptops, and file and print servers.
Reliably, consistently and efficiently.
It includes all the tools you need to manage
distributed data. Along with the option of storing
backed up data onsite, or, for added security,
transmitting it offsite to a remote repository
over a WAN.
You control the backup functions and the storage
media. You decide which information to store
online and which to archive offsite. And you avoid costly downtime. Your IT administrator, or users
themselves, can quickly restore lost data.
There are no prohibitively expensive license fees.
Thanks to Asigra’s agentless technology, you pay
only for the total amount of compressed data stored
online.
Centralized Control
The DS-System software, installed at the central
data center, makes it easy for IT staff to manage
the online vault and data repository. It incorporates
a full range of powerful administrative features.
Web-based Status Reports assure accountability,
verifying that all backups occurred as scheduled.
The central hub has a complete view of the entire
LAN from one interface that is easily integrated
with existing SNMP-based monitoring and
notification systems.
Easy Deployment Across the
Enterprise
Thanks to Asigra’s agentless architecture, you only
install one free software application, the DS-Client,
on your main LAN server. That eliminates the cost of
installing an agent or client on every machine you
want to protect. It also makes your backup highly
scalable.
Automate client installations across a variety of
operating systems and network configurations. The
DS-Client can protect data from most operating
environments, such as Windows, Unix, Linux,
including “hot” backup of Oracle, MS-SQL and MSExchange.
It integrates fully with NT domains, Trusts
and Novell NDS trees, and otherwise adopts your
LAN’s existing security settings.
Lower Backup/Restore Costs
Unlike other backup solutions, Asigra’s unlimitedseat
licensing model means that you pay only for
the aggregate amount of compressed data from
across your enterprise network. There’s no charge
for the DS-Client software installed on your
LAN server.
Your backup cost per machine is minimized, because
duplicate data that appears on networked
computers – such as system files and registry
settings – is sent only once to the online vault. As
you add machines to your LAN, the average cost
actually goes down.
Many of the costs associated with tape backup will
be eliminated. Your local expenses drop
dramatically as you eliminate software license fees,
tape technology upgrades or replacements, new and
replacement tapes, offsite tape storage, recruiting,
training and supporting staff.
Faster Backup, Faster Recovery
Asigra Televaulting automates and simplifies as
much of the backup process as possible. Backups
can occur as often as required, and only new,
unique data is backed up, saving bandwidth and
storage space. You can backup while restoring,
restore while backing up.
To speed recovery, data is initially stored on disk at
your central data center, or, if you choose, a
remote location. There, the system automatically
stores critical data (used for day-to-day operations)
and important data (legal and regulatory) to the
appropriate media – critical on disk for fast access
and recovery, important on tape for offsite storage.
A marked improvement over traditional tape backup
methods that treat both types the same.
Hardware requirements
The DS-System application installed at the central
hub runs on Solaris, Windows 2000 or higher or
Linux Red Hat and Suse. Storage architecture can
be DAS, SAN or NAS.
