Asigra Grabs Market Leadership in Remote Online Backup Software
TORONTO – September 26, 2006 – Asigra™, the technology specialists in agentless remote backup and recovery software, today claimed the lead in remote online backup software with the evolution of its Televauting™ software into a full-scale data protection platform.
Asigra Televaulting™ is agentless, multi-site backup/recovery software that combines utility service provisioning with a disk-based WAN-optimized architecture to shatter the limitations of traditional distributed backup. Televaulting provides grid-based performance and capacity scaling for virtually unlimited data growth, allowing the software to support any backup load. Beyond the basic remote backup services, Asigra has enhanced the Televaulting software platform by integrating advanced data protection capabilities, including Continuous Data Protection, Backup Lifecycle Management, WAN optimization (de-duplication ie Global Single Instance Storage, incremental backup, compression), and encryption. These advance features typically require additional external applications, licenses and costs to be added to the main backup process in order to ensure an adequate level of data protection.
“As the data protection puzzle grows increasingly complex, Asigra is simplifying it by bringing together all of the critical tools into a single, robust integrated software application,” said Eran Farajun, Executive Vice President of Asigra. “This is an unprecedented value for customers as Asigra Televaulting delivers all of these advanced data protection capabilities at no extra cost. The customer buys the Televaulting backup application and gets CDP, ILM-type backup management and encrypted data de-duplication and more for free.”
The wide-ranging customer benefits delivered by Asigra Televaulting software include:
- Agentless Architecture
By eliminating the need for agents on each PC, desktop and server Asigra simplifies backup management and boosts performance. Remote offices typically lack dedicated IT staffs so the lack of agents is ideal for simplifying remote backup software installation and operation. Software agents also consume CPU cycles on desktops, laptops and servers so Televaulting’s agentless design actually boosts machine performance compared to agent-based alternatives.
- Local and Global Single Instance Storage
Televaulting intelligently manages the backup operations to search and eliminate duplicate files from the backup set across all locations, retaining only a single instance of data. The data de-duplication process supports both local and global Single Instance Storage. Televaulting sends only compressed delta block change across the WAN as part of the remote backup operation, minimizing the size of the backup data set to conserve WAN bandwidth and reduce the backup window.
- Backup Lifecycle Management
Asigra has built the Televaulting platform to be ILM aware, applying ILM-type data management to the backup process. As a result, Televaulting is the ideal solution for regulatory compliance and legal discovery with a full complement of data retention and data destruction features, including digital certificates to verify file destruction. Televaulting’s BLM capabilities support comprehensive file search options and provide data movement among multiple tiers of storage from disk to tape libraries and archival data relocated to offline storage.
- Continuous Data Protection
The integrated event-based Continuous Data Protection component of Televaulting provides continuous 24/7 data production with support for Recovery Point Objectives as granular as 1 second. Televaulting CDP is designed for remote backup operations with automatic WAN optimization tuning built-in and support for automatic re-connection and resumption in the event of a connection failure.
- Data Encryption
Televaulting ensures that private customer data remains secure with encryption up to AES 256, the highest-level encryption commercially available. During a backup operation small files and delta blocks of data are first compressed and then encrypted prior to transport over the WAN. Data remains encrypted in-flight and at-rest. The backup data is only unencrypted by the original client when it has retrieved the encrypted data from the data center for a restore.
- Capacity-Based Licensing
Asigra Televaulting uses a customer-friendly “pay-as-you-grow” licensing model where users only pay for the actual data capacity protected by Televaulting with no per- server or per-workstation licenses required. The capacity usage is determined by the data that is actually sent over the WAN during a backup operation after it has been processed for de-duplication and compressed prior to transit. The Asigra model also does not require local storage for local recovery, providing additional cost benefits for customers.
- Flexibility in Data Restoration
Televaulting gives system administrators control over a full range of data recovery options, ranging from bare metal restore of a complete system down to individual file or message level restoration. Bare metal restore capability allows administrators to quickly recover lost, damaged or corrupted data in a streamlined fashion to any bare metal system (at any location throughout the enterprise) without having to manually reinstall operating systems or configure hardware prior to use. Data can be restored or redirected to any authorized machines on the network and users can give priority to specified data for recovery, eliminating the need to immediately restore non-essential data during a disaster recovery effort.
About Asigra
Asigra is the award-winning leader in remote office/branch office online backup/recovery with more than three petabytes of data under protection. Since 1986, the company’s agentless Televaulting solution has centralized data management and eliminated the pricing and performance problems created by agent-based tape backup software in multi-site enterprises. Televaulting addresses state, Federal and international regulatory compliance demands by backing up remote/branch office data to the data center. Data is encrypted both in-flight over the WAN and at rest. Televaulting is offered by leading resellers and service providers worldwide to deliver highly secure data protection.
